and recognized as a World Heritage Site
 

Manifesto in defense of Marroquies Bajos, the ancient Jaen

From the 'Almenara Institute for the Progress and Development of Andalusia' and from the digital magazine 'Argarica.es, Arqueología e Historia', we call on the entire research and professional community related to history and heritage to subscribe and disseminate the following manifesto whose objective is to give visibility and maximum protection to the so-called "Marroquies Bajos Archaeological Zone" (ZAMB), in the capital city of Jaén, which is currently at serious risk of being permanently buried under public and private works. Marroquíes Bajos is one of the most important sites of the recent prehistory throughout Europe. Following its mistreatment for decades it is incomprehensible within the framework of the current legislation of the Junta de Andalucía and discreditable in the social and ethical field in which we move in the 21st century.

The remarkable prehistoric site of 'Marroquies Bajos' is one of the most relevant to know the communities of the 3rd millennium in the Iberian Peninsula. Its investigation, safeguarding and investigation is an imperative of science, heritage and citizenship.

Marroquíes is one of the great archaeological sites of the Iberian Peninsula. Its discovery and excavation has been one of the most important novelties of prehistoric archeology of the last decades that has revolutionized the knowledge that we have of the societies of the past of 5000 years ago. Laziness and lack of investment in research, conservation and dissemination is not understood. The laziness of the Junta de Andalucía, the administration responsible for the protection of the property, is not tolerable.
